ICANN Confirmation / domain verification emails

What is an ICANN domain verification email?

Some domain names require registrant contact verification after registration or contact detail changes.

This commonly applies to generic domain names such as:

  • .com
  • .net
  • .org
  • other non-.nz domain extensions

It does not normally apply to .nz domain names.

Why did I receive a verification email?

The domain registrar may send a verification email to confirm the domain registrant contact details.

You need to click the verification link in the email to confirm the domain contact details.

What happens if I do not verify the domain?

If the domain is not verified within the required timeframe, the registrar may suspend the domain name.

If this happens, the website and email connected to the domain may stop working until the verification is completed.

What should I do?

If you receive a domain verification email, please open it and follow the verification link.

If you are unsure whether the email is genuine, please contact WebhostingNZ support before clicking anything.
